Referals

Hello!

Let me tell you that surfing around Facebook, I realized that one friend from Colombia, living at US, is going to visit Bogota. It turns out that he has been out there for a while, and he wanted to make some business connections, like he used to do when living out in Phoenix, he studied an MBA and at his school they had this first Tuesday meetings every month to keep on track. He send the invitation directly to his friends, I guess I'm at that level because is by this mean that I had the invitation, of course some of his acquaintances answered. I just seize the opportunity to get him in touch with some other program students.

The advantage when referring people from LATAM countries is that this culture is some kind foreign friendly, this means that the people in this countries is willing to offer special treatment to their foreign fellows. Also it represents a path to get information of the country the visitor is related. Its a win-win situation when there is goodwill and desire to network.

I use my contacts and write both my friend and the actual coordinator for Bogota site, they started the organization process and also included the Vice-president from a past class, by the end this organization group had at least 3 people with previous experience in connecting and vinculating with different people.

Some recommendations I have to improve the networking in different cities or countries:
  • An event is important for the organizer, being aware of the invitations you receive, maybe you can't participate, but you can invite someone else to the event.
  • A foreigner always be grateful if you include him in different plans, sometimes when people travel for work issues they have little extra time to do social activities outside the travel agenda, but there always be someone with the attitude to share some ideas.
  • Get in touch your different friends and contacts, they could benefit and eventually make some pretty good networking, If it gets trough, sure they'll keep you in mind for some other activities.
